What To Gift Expecting Parents

This post has been requested a few times and it’s something I’ve found myself chatting with friends and family about quite often lately. Figuring out what to gift expecting parents can be a bit challenging, but now that I’m pregnant, I think I have a different perspective on this.

I can’t say this is true for all expecting parents, but for Kirby and I, we really want to buy what we like for Blob aka Baby. Our parents and grandparents have helped us out with a few of the bigger purchases, which we are extremely grateful for, but we really want to outfit Blob in the clothes, swaddles and blankets that we like! We also feel a bit uncomfortable receiving gifts because we made the choice to have a baby.

Lifestyle blogger Sammy Hill shares ideas for what to gift expecting parents.

This is just my opinion, and you can agree or disagree, but I think that if you want to gift expecting parents with something, they would probably appreciate a gift for them, sometimes more so than for baby! Here are a few ideas of gifts for expecting parents:

+ house cleaning – This is the #1 gift idea that comes to mind for me! I suck at cleaning, but I know that I want our home to be deep cleaned before Blob arrives. I think that gifting expecting parents with a home cleaning from a professional service would be AMAZING.

+ clothing for mama – The one thing that I am not excited to buy for pregnancy and Blob? Maternity clothes! I’m excited to buy swaddles all day long, but buying maternity clothing for myself? No thanks. Whether it’s a gift card to her favourite store or a cute dress you know she’ll love, it’s nice to treat mama while everyone else is spoiling baby.

+ meals – I haven’t even had a baby yet and I know that this would be a great gift for the first few weeks with a newborn. I don’t like cooking on the best of days, I can only imagine how little I’ll want to cook when Blob is here. Whether it’s restaurants gift cards, credits for a meal delivery service or home-cooked meals, mom and dad are sure to appreciate this.

+ small getaway – If you really want to spoil soon-to-be parents, or go in on a gift as a group, gifting a small getaway or babymoon could be a great idea. Whether before or after baby’s arrival, new parents are sure to need some quality one-on-one time.

Kirby and I have told our friends and family that we are not expecting gifts, but if it is important to them, we are so grateful for anything that we receive. To me, the greatest gift is knowing that Blob will have many loving babysitters ready to watch him/her grow. We also appreciate the support during this wild time, especially knowing our dogs will be taken care of – one less thing to worry about!

Parents – what is the best gift that you received when expecting your little ones?
