Second Trimester Pregnancy Update

I’m officially halfway through my pregnancy and halfway to meeting baby Blob! We’re almost halfway through the second trimester as well, and I thought it was about time that I share an update.

Compared to the first trimester, the second trimester has been a breeze. Most of my symptoms, like nausea, exhaustion and shortness or breath have subsided, but they’ve been replaced with intense headaches and a runny, bloody nose. I’ll gladly put up with the bloody nose over the exhaustion though!

At our 20 week ultrasound, we saw Blob moving and grooving! I’ve been feeling lots of movement for about two weeks now, with the occasional jab or right hook. Our ultrasound tech said that Blob has very long legs, a perfect spine and is the smartest baby she’s ever seen (LOL). She also said that Blob was very cooperative and turned perfectly each time she needed a different view. I have a feeling that cooperation won’t last long after birth!

I was so happy that Kirby got the chance to come into the room and see Blob. It’s been hard for him not to be allowed at doctor’s appointments or being there to hear the heartbeat. He was very excited to see our little one throwing hands up and wiggling around.

My belly is quite prominent now and so are all of my veins! None of the other moms-to-be I’ve talked to have mentioned that their belly and chest are super veiny, but mine sure is. Sorry for TMI… And I’ve finally gained a bit of weight. I actually lost 10 pounds when I got first pregnant, but I’ve now gained it back.

I haven’t had any major cravings really, but I’ve been drinking a lot of root beer and enjoying popsicles daily. That’s pretty normal for me though. I’m trying to get back to eating regular meals as well – that was definitely not possible in the first trimester with all of the food aversions.

There are two questions that I’ve been asked over and over: Are you finding out the gender and when is your baby shower? We are not finding out the gender before birth. We just like the idea of the surprise that comes with the doctor announcing the gender at birth, and honestly, knowing the gender wouldn’t change anything we’ll be buying for Blob.

As for a baby shower, we have asked that friends and family not plan anything for us. This is just a personal preference!

We know that Blob is already so loved and we can’t wait to see what the last half of pregnancy has in store for us.
