The New Parent Meal Plan: What We’ve Been Eating

Between the last few weeks of pregnancy and the first two weeks after Mara arrived, we ate like sh*t. I felt so heavy and tired in the last few weeks of pregnancy, I had no interest in cooking. When Mara was born, we were too tired and busy to worry about eating good food. But now that we’re settling in, I’m getting us on a new parent meal plan that will work for us and be better fuel for our bodies.

I don’t know much about nutrition, but I know that limiting fast food, junk food, and bread will help me start getting back in shape. I can’t work out for a couple more weeks, but I can start with eating well!

Lifestyle blogger Sammy Hill shares her new parents meal plan.

I think the key to a new parent meal plan that works is to actually plan. I have been planning out breakfast, lunch and dinner for Kirby and I, as well as healthy snacks so that we have something to stick to. If we were winging it while taking care of two dogs and a newborn, we’d be eating mac + cheese every day – lol.

Here is a sample of our meal plan lately:

Breakfasts: Cherry Chia Pudding, Reese’s Overnight Oats, Ezekiel Bread toasted and topped with Greek Yogurt and raspberries, fruit and yogurt parfait.

Lunches: Kale + Feta Salad, Spiced Chickpea + Creamy Veggies Salad, Mediterranean Quinoa Bowl

Dinners: Beef + Broccoli Stir Fry, Balsamic Braised Chicken, Cherry Tomato Cod

Snacks: Peanut Butter Energy Bites, Veggies + Hummus, Popcorn, Protein Bars

As long as I have an idea of what we’re eating each day, I’m much better prepared to eat well while taking care of a baby, the dogs and myself.

Are you a parent? Did you struggle to get on a good new parent meal plan, or was it easy peasy?
