I’ve never been great at networking in person, but when you’ve been in business less than a year and you can’t go out and meet new people (thanks COVID), it makes you wish you could pop into a downtown after 5 networking event! Instead, I’m learning how to network digitally to expand my community and knowledge.
Networking mixers can be awkward and intimidating, but an Instagram DM? That’s a piece of cake! Commenting on a post in a Facebook group? Also super easy. Digital networking can be just as effective, if not more effective than face to face meetings.
So how can you network digitally? Well, like face to face networking, you have to put yourself out there a bit. I have practiced this by engaging with other blogger’s and brand’s posts, sending direct messages to connect, joining Facebook groups and commenting on posts in the groups and sending emails to brands I’d like to work with.
I love that I can meet new people, learn new things and create connections from the couch. I have met some people in the DMs that I now consider to be my friends – people that I can ask for advice, to collaborate with or to just chat with. The best is when new followers message me and say “I found you through so and so’s Facebook group!”.
It’s too bad we can’t go grab drinks on a patio right now and talk shop, but digital networking can help to tide us over and keep us safe and healthy.
If you want to digitally network with me, please send me an email or a DM!
