Couples Q&A

If you’ve read my blog before, you’ve probably heard me mention Kirby a time or two. Kirby is the most supportive boyfriend, always helping me get photos, plan blog posts, and today, he’s answering some questions with me for a little Couples Q&A!

We’ve been together for a year and a half, after meeting on an indoor soccer team. We now live together in our fixer upper with our dog Odie, and we know each other pretty damn well.

The questions in this couples Q&A were submitted by my IG followers – thank you guys!

How do you lift each other up when the other is feeling down?

S – When Kirby is feeling down, I go into problem-solver mode. If it’s about work, I immediately start coming up with ideas for him. Something that I love about our relationship is that we’re both invested in each other’s careers, and we bounce ideas off of each other really well.

If it’s about something other than work, I just listen and try to be understanding, and then I typically suggest that we take it easy and relax by the fire or something.

K – With my arms… Seriously though, I do my best to listen to what the issue is and offer advice or different I think would be able to help. I try to offer a different perspective.

What was the hardest thing for both of you to get used to?

S – I think that the hardest thing for me to get used to with Kirby was his spending. I’m overly cautious with money and, in the past, he has not been the best with spending. He’s definitely gotten better over the last year and we talk about our budget and what we can spend constantly.

K – Learning how to be more selfless. I don’t think that I was selfish, but I’ve learned that I can’t just do what I want all the time and my actions have a much larger effect now than they used to. A different impact than they used to.

How do you deal with Kirby’s golf habits?

S – Not well! Haha kidding. Kirby has a lot of hobbies, including golf, which are very important to him. I know that those hobbies make him who he is, and I wouldn’t want him any other way. But sometimes I do put my foot down and tell him that’s enough rounds of golf for one week or hide his credit card so he can’t buy another expensive putter.

K – Very well. I like to think that I pioneered those habits.

^eyeroll

What was the first thing that you noticed about each other?

S – I noticed that Kirby had a magnetic personality and that everyone liked talking to him. He’s just so easy to get along with and he’s also very good at making others feel included.

K – The first thing that I noticed was how shy Sam was and how out of her comfort zone she was.

What do you argue most about?

S – I like to have plans and stick to those plans, so we argue when we agree to something and then Kirby changes his mind or is late. Oh, and when he wants to nap ALL THE TIME.

K – We argue most about my golfing habits or where I left my keys or plans that I forgot about.

What’s a weird habit that the other person has?

S – I think it’s weird that he picks off his nails instead of clipping them.

K – A weird habit that Sam has is that she always crushes a bag of chips before she eats them. She also chirps me on Odie’s behalf when he’s in trouble, which is weird.

When did you know that you loved each other?

S – This is going to be a super predictable answer, but I knew that I loved Kirby when I saw him caring for our dog Odie and playing with him. Odie was my dog before we met and it took some time for Odie to accept Kirby, but once they started to bond, I knew that we had just started a little family.

K – I knew that I loved Sam when Odie and I started to get along and we spent time as a family. I moved in with them pretty early into our relationship and we spent a lot of time together. Once Odie accepted me, I think it was easier for Sam to relax and be herself, and that’s when I knew I loved her.

What is your favourite thing about the other person?

S – My favourite thing about Kirby is his attractive personality. I knew without a doubt that he would get along from the get-go with my family and friends. He’s welcoming, friendly, intelligent, funny and he can have a great conversation with anyone. Except people that don’t use their signal light – he can’t have a good conversation with them…

K – It’s between how dedicated she is to pretty much everything she does and how hard she’s willing to work is pretty incredible, and she’s pretty funny sometimes.

We hope that you enjoyed this fun little couples Q&A!
