2022 fashion trends are coming in hot and I am so ready to test some of these styles out. From trendy prints to comfy favourites and lots of colour (who am I?!), 2022 is kicking off with some really fun ways to dress.
I’ve rounded up some popular trends this season with a few thoughts on how best to wear them.
shades of purple
I’ve already touched on this trend on Instagram, but it has to be one of my favourites this year. Purple was my sister’s fave colour growing up and almost everything she owned was a shade of purple. I, other the other hand, didn’t come around to this shade until recently.
How I’m Wearing It: Tie-dye was obviously a major trend at the beginning of the pandemic, but I’m bringing it into 2022 with this fun purple sweatshirt. I love wearing this with some shiny earrings, a good tan and a pair of jeans or faux leather pants.

Houndstooth or Checkboard print
A trending print for 2022 is a checkerboard or houndstooth that adds some dimension to an outfit. An easy way to wear a houndstooth print is a long sleeve top in a muted colour paired with jeans. If you want to be more subtle with the print, this cute bag with a neutral outfit would do the trick. For the checkerboard print, you could keep it simple with a simple sneaker or, for a more adventurous look, grab some checkerboard pants to style with a cozy sweater.

sweats, but make it chic
How happy am I that sweatpants are on trend this season for something other than the couch? That said, there is a way to wear these comfy pants in a more stylish way. You can do a matching set with a lug sole boot and car coat or swap out the sweatshirt for a fitted bodysuit and add a short puffer jacket.
How I’m Wearing It: You can 100% catch me in a matching sweatsuit with a car coat, toque and sneakers this season. Comfy, cozy and totally acceptable for running errands in.

Preppy
Preppy styles are definitely making a comeback this year. I’m talking polos, cable-knit sweaters, pinafore dresses and pleated skirts. The trick to not making these styles look like a school uniform is to pair them with edgier pieces, or purchase these items in an updated silhouette or fabric. For example, a faux leather pinafore dress or a cropped polo sweater.
How I’m Wearing It: I snagged this cropped polo sweater that I’m wearing with high-waisted bootcut jeans and tucked into wide-leg trousers.

Shoulder Details
I’m seeing tons of sweaters and tops with fun shoulder details this season! Puffed shoulders, ruffles, you name it.
How I’m Wearing It: Keep it simple. I like a colourful sweater with a ruffle shoulder detail paired with some basic straight let jeans or a puff shoulder, fitted top tucked into faux leather pants.
