How To Prioritize Wellness This Year

If there was ever a time to take our health and wellness seriously, this is it. If living a healthier lifestyle is one of your resolutions for 2021, it’s going to be important to prioritize wellness and not let restrictions and distractions keep you from focusing on physical and mental wellness.

How To Prioritize Wellness This Year

+ Make at-home workouts a priority // I prioritized at-home workouts in 2020 and it was one of the best things I’ve ever done. Between the BBG program and BROnDemand (use code SAMMY15 for 15% off), I stayed in shape, reached some of my fitness goals and felt better than ever.

I highly recommend scheduling in at-home workouts, including low-intensity and recovery days to stay healthy and on track. I like the SWEAT app because it plans everything for you!

+ Take time to be still // This is one that I need to take my own advice on. This holiday season was a great reminder how important it is to take some time to relax and breathe. I like to use the Headspace app to tune out everything else, practice deep breathing and relax.

+ Stay connected // Don’t forget about your mental wellness! Staying connected while safely isolating is key prioritizing your mental wellness. I call or text my family members daily and check in with friends often. Kirby and I also like to go for distanced walks with some of our friends for some safe, in-person connection. Don’t feel like isolating means you have to be alone – there are many ways to stay connected!

+ Use your health benefits // As you read that, picture me screaming it at you – LOL. If your company supplies you with extended health benefits, make sure that you take advantage of them. For years I would let those benefits run out, but in the last two years, I’ve taken full advantage and used up my Chiropractic, Massage and Physiotherapy benefits – and my body needed it.

Now that I’m self-employed, I don’t have an employer covering those benefits, but I still make an effort to put my body first and book in with my Chiropractor when I need it. A lot of the time, those benefits can help to prevent some serious ailments.

+ Create a routine that works // A good routine can do wonders to keeping your wellness high on the list. One of my routines is to add my health must-dos to my to-do list every day. If I don’t have to check off ‘take your vitamins’ or ‘walk the dog’, I’m far less likely to accomplish it.

Find a routine that works for you and commit to it!

Making physical and mental wellness a priority is something that I plan to continue to focus on in 2021. Is this on your priority list this year? What are some of your favourite ways to practice wellness?
