COVID-Friendly Things To Do This Holiday Season

This holiday season is unlike any other before. Christmas parties are cancelled, community events are scarce and turkey dinner will be a bit smaller than usual. To keep you and your bubble from complete boredom, I’ve put together a list of COVID-friendly things to do this holiday season.

7 COVID-Friendly Things To Do This Holiday Season

Do A Puzzle & Play Some Games

I love playing board games or doing a puzzle at the best of times! Disney puzzles are my favourite and I like to play Monopoly Deal and Settlers of Catan for games night.

Make A Batch of Cookies

Get creative with your holiday baking this year and test out some new recipes or learn new baking skills. You can even take a virtual class to learn icing techniques or how to make a gingerbread house. The Cake Mama does some fun virtual courses!

Sledding or Snowshoeing

Staying safe over the holidays doesn’t have to mean being cooped up at home. Outdoor activities like sledding or snowshoeing can be done safely, as long as you keep your distance from others. We love to take Odie up into the mountains and go for a rip down the hill on a sled or magic carpet!

Order Takeout From Your Favourite Local Restaurant

Local restaurants need our support now more than ever. If you’re in the mood for some good eats, consider ordering takeout from your favourite local restaurant. I have been known to order strictly dessert takeout a time or two as well (lol). Some of my favourite local restaurants in Kelowna are Central, Jack’s Pizza, Bluetail Sushi, Taki Sushi and Sunny’s.

Drive-By Christmas Lights Tour

Another way to get out of the house for a bit while still staying safe is a Drive-By Christmas lights tour! We love driving down Candy Cane Lane in Kelowna and exploring other parts of the city to find the best Christmas light displays. Grab a yummy coffee, and a puppicino for your furry friend, and pile into the car for a fun (and free) way to get in the Christmas spirit.

*Bring some non-perishable food items, just in case! Candy Cane Lane in Kelowna typically has a bin to donate.

Christmas crafts Zoom party

I know that my mom is missing getting together with her friends to do some Christmas crafting. A solution to this could be a fun little Christmas craft Zoom party! If you’re hosting, it could even be fun to send your friends some craft supplies and instructions ahead of time, and then craft together virtually. The beauty of this? No need to find a designated driver to get you home if you drink a little too much wine with your friends!

Make Your Own Ornaments

Last year for Christmas, my family each decorated our own ornament and hung it on a massive wreath. As our family grows, it’s been more and more difficult for all of us to get together, so we wanted to make sure that a little piece of each of us could make it to the family Christmas party.

Making your own ornaments is a great COVID-friendly thing to do this holiday season.
I made these little DIY tassel ornaments last Christmas!

A custom ornament is super easy to make! Pick up some supplies from Michaels and you can easily find some inspiration on Pinterest.

There are plenty of COVID-friendly things to do this holiday season! I know it’s not ideal (trust me, I would give anything to just visit my Grama over the holidays), but I’ll do whatever I can to keep my family and others safe.

What COVID-friendly activities are you getting up to?
