I am 100% a morning person. I can’t keep my eyes open past 9 pm, but I am alive and ready to go early every morning!
I feel like, without even knowing it, I’ve created a very regimented morning routine for myself. Or rather, Odie has created a very regimented routine for the both of us – lol.
Starting my day off the same way every day has allowed me to become more efficient, a better planner and it’s nice to wake up and just know what the next 2-3 hours looks like.
I know that morning routines aren’t for everyone, but for me, my routine sets the tone for my day.
Here is my morning routine down to the minute:
5:55 am – Odie gets out of bed, walks to the bedroom door and softly snaps at me to let him out.
6:00 am – My alarm goes off, I grab my phone and check any notifications or messages. Keep in mind, I’ve just gotten out of bed and gotten back in after letting Odie out. I don’t know why I do this to myself, but it’s just become my routine!
6:15 am – I get out of bed and head to the kitchen where Odie is waiting in front of his dishes. I get some coffee going and feed him his breakfast. I open his puppy door so he can go outside and head to the couch with my coffee.
6:30 am – I know that I am most productive first thing in the morning, so once I am situated with my coffee, I grab my laptop and get to work. I publish blog posts, promote blog posts, create and share LIKEtoKNOW.it content and schedule Instagram content.
7:30 am – Kirby usually wakes up around this time and comes out to the couch. We have some breakfast together, usually granola, and talk about the day ahead.
7:45 am – I write out my daily list of all of the work, house work and fitness items I need to get through that day. You can see what that list looks like and how I use it in this post.
8:00 am – I head to the bathroom to get ready for the day. If I’m washing my hair, it takes me about an hour or so to get ready, but if I don’t have to wash my hair, I’m ready by 8:30. I normally curl my hair with a flat iron, give my face a quick wash and add my easy makeup routine if I have things to shoot that day.
** If I am doing a cardio day, I usually go for a 15-25 minute run in the morning before I get ready for the day. If I am doing resistance training, I leave that until later in the day. I guess if I know I’m going to be sweaty (from doing cardio) I’d rather do that before I shower, but when I’m doing resistance training, I don’t sweat much and I like to use that workout to break up my work day a bit.
It is extremely rare that my morning routine doesn’t go exactly like that. Like I said, I don’t even think that creating this routine was intentional, it’s just stuck after repetition. Even on the weekends my mornings look a lot like this, although sometimes I’ll watch recorded TV shows while I work or we’ll leave the house by 8:00 am for a hike with Odie.
This is how I start my day and I love the structure that it gives me!
What does your morning routine look like? Do you have one?
