As important as morning routines are to get you going for the day, winding down in the evenings is just as important to your health and wellbeing.
I am so far from being a night owl that it isn’t even funny. I love getting into bed by 8pm, and I’m also up before the sun every day. Winding down in the evening is important to me to be ready for a good night’s sleep.
Here are a few ways that I wind down in the evening.
Watch a TV Show or Play a Board Game with Kirby
As a blogger and freelancer, I can work from the couch any time of day. Sometimes, it’s hard to turn the work off in the evenings and relax a little, so I make a point of taking time in the evenings to watch a TV show or play a board game with Kirby to take our minds off of work.
Right now, we’re loving watching Altered Carbon on Netflix and we’re gearing up for season three of Ozark, and we play a lot of Villainous and Catan. Both are great ways to take our minds off of the stress of the work day.
Evening Skincare Routine
I’m so proud of myself for staying on top of my skincare routine for as long as I have – lol. My evening skincare routine also helps me to unwind before bed and feel clean and relaxed. I take my makeup off with micellar water and then cleanse with the Drunk Elephant Beste Cleanser. Next, I apply Drunk Elephant A-Passioni Retinol Cream and B-Hydra Hydration Serum, and I finish with LANEIGE Water Bank Moisture Cream.
It feels so good to head to bed with a clean face!
Drink a Green Tea at 8pm
I’ve been trying to stop snacking by 8pm every night and finish my evening with a green tea in bed. I normally head to bed around 8pm and either read a book or watch a TV show, and my new evening routine includes enjoying a green tea while I wind down. My favourite right now is the Green Passionfruit tea from David’s Tea.
No Screen Time After 8pm
Okay, this isn’t currently part of how I wind down in the evenings, but I want to make it a part of my routine! It would be great to let my brain relax and not be affected by blue light as I’m getting ready to do a snooze. Instead of watching TV and playing on my phone, I could read my book (currently reading The Ride of A Lifetime by Bob Iger) or play cards with Kirby.
Make The Bedroom A Peaceful Place
Keeping my bedroom set up as a peaceful place to relax and sleep definitely helps me to unwind in the evenings. I keep the bedroom fairly clutter-free, with just our bed, nightstands, Odie’s bed and a shelving unit in the room. Before we go to bed, we open a window to keep the room cool, ask our Google Home to play the sound of rain, run a humidifier and spray our pillows with a sleeping mist.
Walk Odie Around The Block
Another great way for me to unwind in the evenings is to take Odie for a walk around the neighbourhood with Kirby. Kirby and I chat about our days and enjoy the fresh air, and it tires Odie out as well!
Now that you know how I wind down in the evenings, tell me how do you wind down before bed!
