Welcome Home, Fenn!

Our girl Fenn is finally here! If you don’t know the whole story, Kirby and I adopted a dog from Iran over a year ago (Feb/Mar 2020), but since COVID had shut down so many flights, we couldn’t get her here.

Well, she is finally here! She arrived in Vancouver on May 11th and we brought her home with us. It was quite the trip for this sweet girl.

How We Came To Adopt Fenn

We were not actively looking for a dog at the time, but one of Odie’s rescuers sent her to us because she looked SO much like Odie. We put a ton of thought into this decision and eventually decided that we wanted to bring her to Canada and give her a better life.

I was unsure about the decision because I have such a strong bond with Odie, and I didn’t want that bond hurt in any way. The commitment of owning a rescue dog is not an issue for us. We love Odie to pieces and take so much pride in the fact that with training, exercise and love, we are giving him the best years of his life. We want the same for Fenn.

Over the last year, Kirby and I have noticed how much Odie loves having other dogs around. As long as he is properly introduced to them, he lights up when his friends come over to chase him around the yard or just chill on the patio. He’s also ONE MILLION times better with people when other dogs are around.

So far, Fenn is very laid back. She’s been doing a lot of sleeping, she’s been going to the bathroom outside and we’re trying to help her transition to new food and get her weight up. She has let out a few little barks (they sound pathetic!) and is slowly getting used to the leash.

Some people have voiced concern about us getting another rescue dog before we have a baby, but we know we’ve got this. Keeping our kids (furry and non-furry – well, Blob might be furry, who knows) safe and happy is the most important thing to us. If that means sacrificing time and money to train our dogs, so be it. If it means finding a home better suited to Fenn if the need is there, so be it. We’re all in on our family.

If you’re curious about Fenn’s journey and transition into our family, I’ve been sharing lots of updates on Instagram!
