After committing to no longer playing small last month, I entered April with a fresh commitment to my blog and business. I tried some new things this month that really paid off, but they were certainly a lot of work. I thought it would be interesting to track the time that I spent on those tasks and projects to give you all an idea of what goes into the work you don’t see.
I’m guilty of looking at an influencer’s Instagram account and thinking, “How do they produce so much beautiful, cool content?”. The truth is, it takes hours. It takes a lot of practice, multiple takes and an insane amount of planning. Here’s a peek at how long it took me to execute a few tasks this month.
+ Casual Dresses Under $100 – This post was a labour of love, but it was so well received, I definitely plan to do more hauls like this. Between shopping for the dresses, shooting Instagram content, shooting photos of each dress, recording an Instagram Stories try-on haul, creating links for each dress, writing the blog post and sharing each dress to LIKEtoKNOW.it, this project took me upwards of six hours. I also had to enlist Kirby to help me shoot photos (he loves when I can’t decide on a location lol.), adding more overall time to this project.
+ Spring Outfits Reel – The Spring Outfits Reel that I created for Instagram took about 3.5 hours from start to finish. This included planning the outfits, coordinating accessories, driving to multiple locations, recording the content, writing the caption and linking the outfits on LIKEtoKNOW.it.
+ Pitching Brands – This task takes an unbelievable amount of time. One of my goals is to work with awesome brands that I genuinely love, so I take a lot of time to carefully select brands to reach out to. This month, I spent at least 12-14 hours researching brands that I’m interested in working with. I then spent about six hours writing personalized pitches to these brands and responding to messages.
These are just three of the many tasks that I completed this month. Don’t even get me started on how much time the Sephora Sale and LTK Spring Sale content took! There is so much work that you don’t see, but each personal connection, sale and collaboration make it worth it.
