How We Keep Our House Clean With Two Dogs

Okay, so the short answer is that we really don’t keep our house clean with two dogs – lol. We try, but it is nearly a full-time job! With a new baby, and working from home most of the time, we’ve been making more of an effort to keep the house clean, or cleaner anyway.

We live in a rancher-style home with a puppy door, so the dogs have access to the fenced backyard whenever they want during the day. I love that they can let themselves out when they need to do their business, but it also means that they track dirt, pine needles and sap from our tree into the house repeatedly throughout the day. On top of that, they both shed like crazy!

Lifestyle blogger Sammy Hill shares how she keeps her house clean with two dogs.

Since the dogs make quite a mess, not to mention the messes Kirby and I make, we stick to a pretty regular cleaning schedule and use a number of tools to keep the space liveable.

First of all, we are crazy and have a white fabric couch. We try to keep it covered if we know the dogs may get on it, but otherwise, we spot clean with our Bissell Little Green Proheat Portable Deep Cleaner/Spot Cleaner. You have to be patient with it, but it works great! One thing it can’t really help with though are coffee stains.. whoops.

For the floors, we tackle those just about every day. We often do a quick vacuum of the entryway, kitchen and living space 1-2 times a day with the Bissell Powerclean Ion Pet 2-in-1 Cordless Vacuum. It’s small and easy to quickly maneuver. Then, we do a good vacuum of the whole house with the Bissell PowerForce Bagless Upright Vacuum every 2-3 days. We also use a Swiffer WetJet to clean up mud and an incredible amount of dog drool.

Once a week, we steam-mop the floors with the Bissell PowerFresh Lift-Off Pet Steam Mop. It’s honestly a but frustrating, because it’s a lot of work and the cleanliness lasts maybe an hour, but I like knowing that we’ve done a good, weekly deep clean.

In addition to the cleaning, we try to brush the dogs with a Furminator once a week to get out the undercoat that is sure to fall out and pile up in corners otherwise.

By the way, this post is not sponsored and I did not realize that all of our cleaning appliances are Bissell until I wrote this post! They certainly come in handy when trying to keep our house clean with two dogs.

Do you have any tried and true tips for keeping the house clean with pups?
