A Work Week In My Life

A Work Week In My Life

I’ve been self-employed for almost a whole year now and I can honestly say that I’ve never loved my work week more than I do now. I’m not really sure I can even call it a ‘work week’, since I work straight through the weekends most of the time, but whatever.

I get a lot of DMs asking what I do for work, mostly from people trying to pitch me on their MLM (lol), but for those who have asked and are actually interested to see what I do, I thought it would be fun to share a work week in my life.

My business currently has two sides to it: creative services and SammmyHill.com. I work on the blog and my personal brand as much as possible, but I also do freelance marketing and creative services for a handful of local clients. I write website content, blog posts, social media content, email campaigns and create social media and marketing strategies for a variety of businesses.

With two sides to the business, my work week always looks a little bit different than the one before. Between my creative services business and SammmyHill.com, there is always something new and different to work on. Here are a few of the things that I end up doing in a week:

+ Creating and scheduling social media posts for clients

+ Writing blog posts and website content for clients

+ Shooting photos of projects for clients

+ Coordinating marketing campaigns for clients with media partners

+ Tons of email communication

+ Pitching brands via email or in-person meetings

+ Creating content for brands (styling products, taking photos or video, editing)

+ Writing blog posts for SammmyHill.com (I plan posts a month ahead and write the week before)

+ Creating graphics for the blog and social media in Canva (I use Canva Pro for all of the graphics that I create for the blog and LIKEtoKNOW.it. Can’t imagine what I would do without it!)

+ Shooting photos, videos and Reels for Instagram and LIKEtoKNOW.it

+ Creating collages and links for LIKEtoKNOW.it

+ Invoicing, tracking receipts and planning business expenses

+ Shopping for new styles and outfits to share

+ Recording Instagram stories and responding to comments on posts

This is just a sampling of the kind of work that I do in a week, but there are always many other completely random things that I end up working on.

Every week looks a little bit different, and I love that about my career. The week that I recorded this video was month end/beginning, so it was packed with client meetings, creating reports for clients, planning, scheduling and invoicing. The upcoming week will have a lot more focus on the blog, creating content and pitching. The one thing that stays consistent, is that my office manager, Odie, will (literally) be barking orders at me.

I’m also planning to hire Upscale Bookkeeping In the new year so that I can get some of the admin tasks off of my plate. I often find myself gravitating towards those tasks because they are straightforward, but I know my time would be better spent on creative work.

What does your work week look like? Is it always the same or do you have plenty of variety?
