8 Halloween Movies for People Who Hate Horror

The spooky season is upon us! Halloween is easily one of my favourite special occasions. I love the decorations, the hunt for the perfect costume, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” playing in every retail store and (obviously) the candy! One thing that I don’t enjoy during this season, or any season really? Horror movies.

I avoid horror movies at all costs! No nightmares, thank you very much. You won’t catch me indulging in a scary movie marathon this Halloween, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be curled up on the couch, TV remote in hand and a supernatural movie on the big screen.

Here are a few of my favourite family-friendly Halloween movies for people who hate horror, like me!

Halloweentown Series

An absolute necessity. Every year when the pumpkins hit the doorsteps, I hit the couch and binge-watch the Halloweentown movies. Who didn’t want to be Marnie Piper and experience the one and only Halloweentown for themselves?!

Ghostbusters

Who ya gonna call? The 1984 original, duh.

Casper

It’s always fun revisiting the Friendly Ghost, his crazy uncles and the amazing Christina Ricci. If I ever do encounter a ghost, I hope it’s Casper.

Goosebumps

I’m sorry, but Slappy the evil ventriloquist dummy is terrifying enough for me.

Monsters Inc.

Halloween and monsters go hand in hand, even if Mike and Sulley are the sweetest monsters ever. What’s really scary though is how I can’t stop singing “put that thing back where it came from or so help me!” everytime I watch the movie ?.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Jack Skellington is literally the “Pumpkin King” of Halloween Town, so this one is a must-watch for the season. This year I can’t wait to see Jack, Sally and Zero at the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland! I’m sure Oogie Boogie won’t be far either…

The Addams Family

Another spooky movie, more Christina Ricci ??. Wednesday Addams taught every millennial girl that pigtail braids and rolling your eyes are the epitome of cool. The one downside to this creepy classic? The theme song will be stuck in your head for days!

The Haunted Mansion

As a big fan of the The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland, I just have to see Madame Leota, the Hitchhiking Ghosts and the Singing Busts when Halloween rolls around!

Bonus: They’re not movies, but rewatching all seasons of Stranger Things and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix is imperative!

Mysterious, creepy and supernatural, but NOT scary – that’s my Halloween movie style. What are your favourite non-horror Halloween movies? Let me know in the comments below!
