The last few months have been difficult on friendships, as we’ve been cooped up away from our friends in order to keep ourselves and loved ones safe. If there was ever a time to reach out and show a friend you’re thinking of them, it’s now.
Between job losses, financial struggles, long days at home with kids, health concerns, not being able to see our families and a lack of escape, it’s important to stay in touch with friends, check in and make sure that they are doing okay.
Here are five ways to show a friend that you’re thinking of them.
Give them a call
So simple and easy, but something we often forget we can do. I’ve been guilty of not picking up the phone when I easily could have. If you haven’t talked to someone in a while or you think they could use a friend, pick up the phone and give them a call – even if it’s just to talk about what they had for lunch, something funny that their kids did or to gossip.
Send them a care package
You don’t have to spend a crazy amount of money on a small care package for a friend. Just the fact that you sent them something at all will be sure to put a smile on their face. You could include a handwritten note, their favourite tea or chocolate, a DIY project like a bracelet or a painting. A thoughtful care package can let a friend know that they are not alone and that you are thinking of them.
SkipTheDishes or Postmates their favourite dessert to them
Obviously make sure that they will be home and not in the middle of something, but this could be such a nice gesture! If someone sent me a Billy Miner Pie from The Keg, I’d be so stoked!
Plan a Zoom date to watch your favourite TV show together
Bachelor watch parties may not be likely this upcoming season, but you can still enjoy your favourite TV show together via Zoom! You can bring some normalcy to your friend’s day by planning a virtual date, and take some time to chat during the commercial breaks. Even
Surprise them with a socially-distanced visit – if possible
If you live nearby and it’s safe to do so, your friends would probably be excited to get a surprise visit! I know that some of my friends that don’t live nearby would love to have this opportunity right now. It’s so easy to drop by with some snacks for a little visit, and still keep a safe distance.
There are many easy ways to show a friend that you’re thinking of them, and it could be just the reminder that they need.
