I have always been highly motivated and driven when it comes to my career. I’ve certainly seen some bumps in the road along the way, but I’ve always had the motivation to push through and keep moving towards my career goals.
But it’s not always that easy. When it comes to your career, you really have to keep yourself motivated, inspired and ready for what’s next. Allowing yourself to fall into the trap of being disinterested or discouraged in your career will keep you from finding a passion that makes you happy and brings in the moola.
For anyone feeling stuck, unfulfilled or uninspired in their career, here are four ways that I motivate myself in my career.
Read Career or Industry Related Content
Read A LOT. Whenever I’m feeling stuck or uninspired, I turn to some of my favourite business books and blogs. Whether I’m reading stories of successful people or blog posts about trends in social media, it always gives me a little boost to work harder and up my game.

Practice Goal Setting
I’ve talked a lot about goal setting, because I really love planning my future. One of my favourite ways to set goals is using the ‘future bio’ technique. When thinking about your career, you can use this technique to imagine what your life looks like five or ten years from now and how work fits into that life. For me, that means envisioning my career as a multi-hyphenate entrepreneur and blogger. I can clearly see myself working in a beautiful office, in a sleek outfit with an amazing team around me.
If you were looking at yourself in your career ten years from now, what does it look like?
Find a Mentor or Follow Someone Who Inspires You
It’s so easy now to find someone that inspires you, whether they are in your community or on Instagram. When I need a little motivation, I turn to the mentors and entrepreneurs that inspire me and show me what hard work can amount to.
One boss babe that I look to for career inspiration is Danielle Bernstein of @weworewhat. Danielle is a blogger, influencer, fashion designer, author, investor and she owns a tech company. I see myself having my hands in a variety of businesses just like Danielle, so when I need a little push, I always head to her Instagram Stories!
Learn A New, Useful Skill
It is never a bad idea to learn a new skill. It could turn into a side hustle, just a hobby or it could be a skill that helps you move up in your current career. I’ve invested in online training for things like website design and photography in order to develop my skills, and I like using sites like Skillshare and Masterclass to learn about all kinds of things from leadership to bookkeeping. Even if I don’t build a custom website or do my bookkeeping, at least I now have a base knowledge of how to do those things.
It doesn’t matter whether you have your dream career or you’re working a job simply to pay the bills, sometimes work will be great and sometimes you’ll need to motivate yourself to keep pushing.
