6 Stylish Houseplants That Are Actually Easy To Care For

Raise your hand if you absolutely love stylish houseplants scattered around your home, but you totally suck at caring for them. Everyone, right?

I love greenery and truly believe that plants are the best piece of home decor that you can invest in. They make any space feel more alive, well styled and more inviting. But I’ll be the first to admit that caring for houseplants has never been my strong suit, until Better Earth Gardens equipped me with the right plants and care tips to keep these beautiful babies happy and healthy!

6 Stylish Houseplants That Are Actually Easy To Care For

Here are six stylish houseplants that are actually easy to care for, as well as a few universal tips for caring for houseplants.

Moclame Fig

I am obsessed with this big, beautiful houseplant. A cousin to the famous Fiddle Leaf Fig, the Moclame Fig is actually easier to care for and grow than it’s popular relative. These beauties thrive in bright, indirect light and should be watered regularly during their growing season. It’s okay for the top soil to become slightly dry between waterings.

The Moclame Fig looks so full in a large basket planter and can be easily styled in corners of your living space or bedroom.

ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia)

I thought this was super cute – Ariel from Better Earth Gardens calls this the EZ Plant, because it’s so easy to grow! Touted as a “virtually indestructible houseplant”, I think that this plant is a match made in heaven for me. They can handle months of neglect and low light and actually do well when you just leave them alone. This means that ZZ Plants are great for low light rooms like the bathroom or window-less rooms. I styled my ZZ Plant in a corner by the pantry that gets very little sunlight.

Dracaena Janet Craig

This tropical beauty is not only easy to care for, but also can be worked into most home decor styles. Dracaena Janet Craig is very versatile and brings beautiful colour to the home. They do like humidity and they do not like direct sunlight. Here is a tip – you can tell if the plant requires more humidity if the tips of the leaves are turning brown!

Swiss Cheese Plant

Another easy to care for plant is the Swiss Cheese Plant! Such an accurate name for this plant if you ask me. I popped this plant up on the top shelf in our newly renovated kitchen. It enjoys indirect sunlight and the soil should dry out between waterings. Swiss Cheese does like high humidity, so it would appreciate a weekly misting!

Myrtle (Mytrus Communis)

How cute is this little topiary that is currently the first thing that I see when I wake up in the morning? Myrtle requires a bit more care than some of the other plants listed, but is still easy to keep healthy. They enjoy filtered sunlight, thorough watering and mild, liquid fertilizer regularly. One tip with myrtle is to avoid keeping it near heat sources like fireplaces or heaters, as they can dry out quickly.

Creeping Fig

Hanging or climbing plants are some of my favourites, and the Creeping Fig has definitely earned a permanent spot hanging in my living room. I’ve hung this plant near the window, but high enough that it won’t be in direct sunlight. Creeping Figs are easy to grow, and often a little too easy, so they do need to be pruned to keep them from growing wild.

Two Tips for Caring For Stylish Houseplants

If you have a brown thumb like I do, these two tips will be sure to help you care for some beautiful houseplants from Better Earth Gardens.

  1. Do yourself a big favour and pick up a Digital Moisture Meter. Better Earth Gardens has a Digital Moisture Meter available for purchase that comes with a guide that tells you exactly what the moisture of hundreds of different houseplants should be and how long you should go between waterings.
  2. Tropical houseplants don’t like to be repotted until they absolutely have no more space to grow, so to solve for this, you should leave your houseplants in the nursery pot that they came in and place the plant and pot into a planter. This is also great for planters that don’t have drainage so you can dump out excess water that your plant could be sitting in.

The Rapitest Digital Moisture Meter checks soil moisture at the root level and helps to prevent over or under watering.
